Ignite Sport was thrilled to partner with Oxford University’s Gardens, Libraries and Museums (GLAM) who delivered fun activities for children as part of our recent HAF delivery.
The HAF programme, organised by the government, was delivered by Ignite in Bicester and Witney, plus at East Oxford primary school and Oxford City FC. This year 1,121 children attended the camps, which is more than double the amount of participants last year!
Organised in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council, GLAM’s visit gave Holiday and Activity Fund (HAF) participants a chance to showcase their creative flare via colouring in, creating their own shadow puppets and stories.
Sarah Levete, Community Engagement Officer at GLAM, represented Oxford University’s Gardens, Libraries and Museums and was pleased to visit our HAF programmes at Oxford City FC and in east Oxford.
She said: “It was great to engage with Ignite Sport’s HAF programmes and participants had lots of fun engaging with our activities.”
“They were able to explore traditional Indonesian shadow puppets, which were brought in from the Pitt Rivers Museum by the GLAM community. We completed lots of colouring, and had lots of fun!”
Andy Francis, Ignite’s Sports Delivery Manager said: “It was fantastic to have GLAM visit 2 of our camps over Easter. It was great to see the children so engaged with an activity that they may not get the opportunity to do anywhere else.”
GLAM is home to some of the world’s most significant collections with over three million visitors attending its sites of interest every year which include the Ashmolean Museum, the History of Science Museum, the Museum of Natural History and the Pitt Rivers Museum.
Collectively, they are home to over 8.5 million objects and form one of the greatest concentrations of university collections and have some of the most important research sources in the world.
In addition, GLAM do lots of work within the community via free workshops for adult community groups, adult learners and family learning groups. They also organise self-led visits for all age groups, from pre-school to A-Levels.
They also host group and school visits to its museums, gardens and libraries, and offer a variety of sessions and educational workshops during visits. Its Community Engagement Programme builds relationships with community groups and takes out collections for the groups to explore.
