Over one thousand free spaces for schoolchildren to stay active during the festive break later this month have been launched by city-based Ignite Sport – with healthy meals included too!
A packed programme of sport and festive holiday camps will be delivered at the RAW Charging Stadium in Marston from Thursday, December 21, with 1000+ funded spaces available for eligible families.
Members of the Oxford City FC first team will be involved with the fun too by leading selected football sessions with girls only football, Game Tech, multisport, Christmas themed art and dance activities also on offer.
Camps will be delivered under the Government’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme which is championed by Manchester United and England footballer Marcus
Rashford. The programme provides free holiday clubs for pupils in reception to year 11 in receipt of benefits related free school meals.
Andy Francis, Active communities Manager at Ignite Sport, said: “Building on the success of our HAF delivery in previous years by making our camps this Christmas open to even more participants is really pleasing.
“It is a fact that children from disadvantaged backgrounds are less likely to participate in out of school activities. HAF provides us with the opportunity to make our holiday camps accessible to all and to support keeping children active whilst accessing a daily hot lunch during the school break.
“We appreciate times are hard for many families across the country right now and therefore encourage everyone eligible to enroll on a free place. A bumper programme of fun and festive activities is planned and we look forward to welcoming many families!”
Ignite Sport Christmas HAF programmes are delivered as part of bookable holiday camps at The Community Arena, Oxford City FC on December 21 and 22 as well as January 3, 4 and 5.
