Ignite Sport partners with East and West Hendred CC to deliver summer sessions

Children across Oxfordshire are being invited to a Cricket Camp run by Ignite Sport at East and West Hendred Cricket Club (EWHCC). 

The sessions are open to children aged nine to 13 of all playing abilities and will take place between 9am-3pm from Monday, August 8, until Friday, August 12 at EWHCC.  

The Camp is supported by the Government’s Holiday and Activity Fund (HAF) programme, which entitles pupils in receipt of free school meals to fully funded spaces on a selection of sport and activity-based sessions.  

The Camp will cost £25 per day, however those eligible under HAF will be able to attend these cricket sessions free of charge, and will also receive a healthy and balanced lunch every day. 

Dom McKenna from EWHCC said: “This is the first time the Club has taken part in a programme like this – we’re really excited to deliver the sessions and proud to be participating in such a wonderful initiative.  

“It’s our ambition to place EWHCC at the heart of our local community and give back wherever possible. We’re proud to partner with Ignite Sport and extend our support to children across Oxfordshire with this programme.  

 “It’s really important we encourage children of all ages and abilities to get involved, so our values as a club really align with those of Ignite Sport.” 

Andy Francis, Sport Delivery Manager at Ignite and EWHCC first-team captain, added: “It’s great to be able to use my experience at Ignite as well as on the team to help deliver these sessions.  

“Having been a part of the club since I was eight, I’m proud to be partnering the club with Ignite to help develop a strong junior stream within the local community – and even better, to be making the sport increasingly accessible. 

“The Cricket Camp is a great way to keep your kids happy and active through the holidays, and we look forward to welcoming the children next month for a packed schedule of drills, games and challenges.” 

Ignite has been delivering sessions to the club’s coaches ahead of the programme, which will ensure those attending will enjoy quality coaching and a wide range of activities throughout the camp.
